| The ALOE system developed at the Knowledge Management department of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH) in Kaiserslautern is a social resource sharing platform that allows to introduce a social layer in existing infrastructures. In MACE, ALOE will be used to allow users to tag, rate and comment on MACE resources, to create personal portfolios, and to contribute new resources. ALOE also allows formal metadata to be associated with resources, thus enabling hybrid functionalities based on different types of metadata. |

In the ARIADNE foundation developed by KU Leuven (KUL), a number of authoring tools for specific learning objects have been developed. Also, a distributed learning object repository (called the "Knowledge Pool System") with associated metadata generation and query tools has been developed. This repository currently has some 15 active nodes throughout Europe and will be in some way connected to the MACE infrastructure. The computer science department at KUL is leading workpackages WP3 and WP6, which deal wih usage related metadata and content and domain metadata.

FH Potsdam (FHP) has extensive experience with interactive design and visualization. It will lead the integration work package and provide a common interface for accessing metadata and content. The main task of FHP will be the extension and adaptation of existing tools and platforms in order to provide easy access to contents. They will also the most important partner for experiments with new visualizations and the largest contributor to objective 4: Improve knowledge access and discovery by interactive visualization. http://www.fh-potsdam.de http://interface.fh-potsdam.de |

Fraunhofer FIT (FIT) is currently hosting the WINDS platform and during previous projects has gathered experience with large scale web based applications. It will help with the integration and host the core of the MACE infrastructure.
In addition to the categories described above, Fraunhofer FIT (FIT) is working as coordinator of the project. FHG has rich experience in design, implementation and evaluation of e-learning solutions and virtual universities in IST projects (WINDS, RAFT, LTSC, ETRACKING, PRO-LEARN) and is through these projects strongly connected with other European research entities. MACE will benefit from these activities and be integrated right from the start.
In addition to its knowledge in technology, FIT has extensive experience in managing international multicultural projects and exploiting their results. It will perform the role of coordinator providing the administrative and financial project management as well as the quality assurance and control in project steering.
